I've tried both Pages and Word, but I can't get them open. This is of the utmost urgency and I need to find out ASAP. Thanks for your help.

I'm surprised Word won't open it as it certainly should be able to - try Text edit. Perhaps your file is corrupted?

TextEdit should be able to open it but it may or may not be perfect depending on the content of the RTF file. You could also try LibreOffice - it's free and should get the job done.

Bean will open the file, or should. Free also. Just another option.

Thanks for all your help guys. Tried all the solutions, but none of them worked. Perhaps the file is corrupted.

Sorry I posted in the wrong forum. I thought it was the correct forum as it was a undefined question. Sorry

The file could be corrupted or someone might have renamed the file to RTF when it really isn't one. Try renaming the file to DOC (.doc) and try opening it. Most word processing programs can open RTF and DOC files but some are better than others in opening them correctly with all the correct formatting.

If renaming the file doesn't work then try downloading the file again or ask the person who sent it to save it as a different file format. Normally RTF is the more universal file choice but in this case you can try DOC. Try to avoid DOCX files because not all word processors can open them well. Good luck.
