Restoring Mail In-box

iMac 27" 2.7 GHz 12GB Ram Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB
Somehow I lost all the mail messages in my in-box. Time Machine showed I had only one previous day as backup. I selected this and got a 'Recovered' mailbox listed in Mail. How do I get all these recovered messages back into the in-box?
