I hope I am in the correct forum. Excuse me if I am not. However I own a Dell mini 10 notebook (yes I am a mac user). So when I go to power it up it only goes as far as the windows xp logo with bar below it showing that it tryng to start up but just stays on that screen and no further. Any advice as what I should do? Aside from junking it? Thanks for any input.

Wrong forum. Please read the sticky and notice above about posting in the "Lounge" for future reference. Since your Dell is not an "Apple Notebook" I moved your post to the "Other Hardware Forum".

Break out your XP install disk and do a repair with it. Look up "repair XP" in the MS KB to learn how.

Agreed. Try a Repair with the XP CD. Let us know if that does not work or you need more help. There are 2 repairs when booting from the CD. First is the Command Console and 2nd is just before you hit F8 to accept the License. You want the 2nd one.

Thanks guys for your help. I have got it fixed. I booted in a safe mode then went to system restore to an earlier date and ran that. After that all I had to do was run anti virus and microsoft up dates. Good as new. This is why I like my macbook pro so much.

Thanks for posting back. Glad to hear you got the Dell up and running again.

Here's an idea for you: Friend of mine has the exact same Dell Netbook... what he did was blow Windows away and install Ubuntu on it. It's like a new machine - fast and everything including the wireless works. :)

Yes, by all means make a complete backup. If you by chance have a copy of Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost, use it to clone the Dell's hard drive to an external disk. That way, if you mess up the Ubuntu install, you can restore the Dell.
