Hello everyone, thanks for helping me!:

I used to be able to block sites on facebook using the terminal (individual sites) with the command

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com/person.name

but after an update (i believe I updated to the mac OSX 10.6.7 snow leopard ) I cannot longer block this specific webpage.

I can block facebook.com but I used to be able to block a single webpage... any ideas? my terminal looks like this:

GNU nano 2.0.6 File: /etc/hosts

127.0sudo /usr/bin/pico /etc/hostssudo /usr/bin/pico /etc/hostssudo /usr/bin/pi$
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com/person.name

Can you use the Parental Controls to achieve you task?

If the user is an admin equiv than using the host file to block can be undun by that user. If the user is a standard user than Parental Controls can be used to block websites a little more granularly.
