Apple is exploring new ways of arranging light-emitting diode (LED) backlights on LCD displays, in a way that could improve color accuracy and allow wider viewing angles.

Apple displays are among the very best. To learn that the engineers at Apple aren't satisfied with that but are looking for innovative ways to improve on them just points out once more why Apple is the leader.

Absolutely. Everyone else is just trying to get into a meaningless specs war by jacking up specs that don't add any meaningful improvement to the image quality, and may even degrade it. I'm hoping Apple really does enter the HDTV biz, because right now some of the best manufacturers have exited the scene (Pioneer, and now Phillips). I'm just glad I got my Kuro before Pioneer threw in the towel.
