Can ipad be turned into phone?

So I was thinking about selling my iphone and getting an ipad and then having my bluetooth connected to it when I had to make calls.

Does anyone know if we can use the ipad for real phones or is this just more for a laptop use?

And if it is, is there way to unlock it or mod it some how to make and receive phone calls?

You can use skype.

But if you want a full blown phone functionality then you are looking at the wrong device.

There was an appisode of AppAdviceDaily which explained how to do this.

Needless to say (and Robin didn't actually mention this) it doesn't work in the UK - although to be fair that was due to GoogleVoice not being available in the UK.
