Scarily close, we sure don't want anything that big hitting us.

If they knew it was 99% likely it would hit us directly in a year's time... do you think the world would pull together, or grind into anarchy? Would the way we react (as a whole) change depending upon whether it was likely to be a ELE, or just a 50% of the world dies (but we don't know which 50% it will be) event?

I reckon if we smear the whole of planet earth with "Preparation H" we will be OK. Apparently it protects against asteroids?

You have to laugh - what else can we do!!!!

(This might be a British only joke)

My guess is everyone would fight for survival. The most powerful countries would send their smartest scientists to figure out where it would hit Earth, and quickly try to take over whatever land is closest to the furthest point from the impact. That's just my guess though. People will always believe in chance, even if the odds are severely stacked against them.

I have always been fascinated with the universe, and the objects contained within it... so beautiful, and interesting. Thanks for the article
