you need to format it with disk utility to HFS+ Mac OS Extended (Journaled) first, then.

THanks for all of the information in the thread. I am planning an putting this drive in my MBP. I was going to hold out for a SSD, but $$$$

I'll probable for with the TimeMachine restore

Time Machine restore would be the "Apple way" to go. get a cup of tea or something in the mean time, it'll take a while to restore.
