Cannot quit iphoto only force quit

I am deleting photos in iphoto version 8.1.2. Once they are in trash I empty trash and then I cannot quite iphoto only force quit. The problem is the photos are not deleted.

How are you attempting to delete the photos? Are you doing it from within the iPhoto program or are you trying to delete them by using the Finder? You should be deleting the photos that you no longer want from within the iPhoto program. Move them to the iPhoto trash.

Yes I am highlighting then press delete or drag photo to trash. Then in iphoto I empty iphoto trash. After this I cannot quit iphoto.

OK, it sounds like you're deleting them the correct way. Have you tried to force quit iPhoto?

Yes I have to force quit to get out of it but then I lose all my changes so everything I have just deleted comes back.

It may be that your iPhoto library is corrupt. Let's try to rebuild it and see if that resolves the problem.
