8 bit???

how do i turn a picture into an 8 bit wallpaper on a macbook pro?? The only software i have to edit pictures is preview and paintbrush. do i need any other software that is FREE?

thanks so much if you can answer my question!!:)

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean by "eight-bit." Are you trying to reduce the colours of your photo? Is this an artistic effect I'm just unaware of?

The normal way one makes a photo into a desktop background ("wallpaper" is a Windows term) is to right-click on the desktop, choose "Change Desktop Background" and choose a photo from your photo library through the resulting dialog box. The picture of the current background is also a "well" into which you can drag other images.
