Hello, I have just gone through the process of burning a track to a CD which already has one track on it....everything was going well until the last bit, when yet again, it told me that I don't have a blank CD...I'd be very grateful if someone could suggest what I might be doing wrong, or if I have the wrong CD. It says "CD-RW" Thanks

Adding a new track to a CD that contains a track already is the process of creating a multi-session CD. Did you "Finalize" the CD when you put the first track down? If you did, you essentially closed the session and it can't be used anymore. If you didn't, then the second session should work and once the CD is full, you have to "Finalize" it..

Most normal CD players (other than those that come in computers) usually have a hard time with multi-session CD's..

If you do have a CD-RW drive, you might want to erase the CD entirely and then burn all of the contents in one go..

CD burning

Thanks very much for your help...I didn't knowingly "finalise" the first track...maybe it just happened. Also, I have tried to erase the whole of the CD, so that I could start again.. (infact, 2 others which I was experimenting with!) and it wouldn't let me erase. I will keep trying, but I'm not feeling very optimistic! I'm sure there's a way.

Now a caveat to erasng a CD-RW media is that it shouldn't be finalized. As the name implies, once that action is taken, the content on the data is permanent. If so, you'll have to use a new CD-RW media..

erasing on CD

Thanks very much for your help...It would seem that my next challenge is to work out how not to 'finalise' once I have put one track onto the CD. best wishes

It doesn't matter whether or not a CD-RW is finalized since it can be erased and re-written to. You would of course finalize it so that it's compatible with auto players and other CD players. But as long as it's a RW, it can be erased.
