iMac RAM upgrade.

Hi all,

I have an iMac of 2009 model, with 2.6 Core2 Duo. Currently it runs on 1 + 1 = 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM.

I am graphic designer by profession. And recently i have started working on some sound & video apps. And somehow i feel the whole system going down a bit. Probably need to upgrade RAM ?

I stay in a little town & my local support guys are quite stupid & they dont really know much themselves. So asking you, which are the compatible RAMs for Apple iMacs ? Also, any idea how can i figure out how much max. memory my can system can upgrade ? At the moment i cant really afford a New Mac for work. But sure i can think to take this to 4,6 or 8GB if this supports & if you guys think that it makes sense ?

Your iMac can support up to 8GB RAM (2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM)
So that's 2x4GB 204-pin PC3-8500 at 1066 MHz DDR3 SO-DIMM

Thanks for this ! And what are the major brands which make RAM apple compatible ? As i am going to order them & install myself.

I would suggest Performance Upgrades; FireWire USB SATA Storage; Memory, more at OWC

Assuming it would make a noticeable difference while working with graphic & media apps.

It will certainly make a difference for those tasks. Along with OWC, Crucial is also a good vendor!

+1 for Crucial. They have a little download that will analyse your system and tell you what memory is compatible.

I put Crucial RAm in my iMac and it works grrrrrrrreat!

Crucial ram upgrade was my first addition when we bought our MBP last month. Crucial was great to deal with and also the cheapest price. +1 for crucial.
