some how or another I erased my hard drive icon on my Mac. How do i get it back?

click HD once then command i then click the upper left hand corner where the icon is (or should be) then drag an image on top

Unless you mean the entire icon is missing from your desktop?
In that case go to finder preferences and select the harddrive checkbox in the 'These items appear on my desktop' fields.
