PS3 controller help

I plugged in a PS3 controller into my iMAC (snow leopard OS), and in the bluetooth preferences page, it says the controller is connected but it is not paired....I tried to pair the controller by the proper procedure of connecting through usb and disconnecting the usb and pushing the PS button but still nothing......I wanna configure my Call Of Duty controls through the controller so any help will be greatly appreciated.
