Reading another thread on securing a portable computer got me wondering about using a firmware password for my systems. If I enable the EFI firmware password option running SL, are there any potential problems that could be caused, other than the obvious forgetting of a password?

No danger whatsoever - provided as you say, you never lose or forget the password or phrase.

Take note that the new Mac portables just released, that is the new MBP models, once secured with a firmware password, if that password is lost, only an authorized Apple technician will be able to reset it.

Older MacBooks and MBP models can be worked around to reset a forgotten firmware password.
