The term "reboot" simply means to restart the computer. I think what you're looking to do is to reinstall the operating system.

Note that this is almost never necessary with a UNIX-based Operating System, it's often a bad habit that we carry over from the Windows world where it actually can be useful.

At most, all you would need to do is simply create a new user account, port your data over to it, and then delete the old one. It's really that simple.

But before you go and do that, consider doing some maintenance tasks with a tool like Onyx.

Migration Assistant is used to move data from one Mac to another. If you're asking about moving it from one user account to another, that's another story. When you create the new account, make sure it's an "Admin". Log into the new account, open Macintosh HD, go into the Users folder. You should see your old account's files in there and be able to select and copy over the data.

Before creating a new account, how much free drive space do you have? If you are critically low, then that would explain your problems, and creating a new user won't help.

It might be an idea to pinpoint why it's running slower - open Utilities>Activity Monitor, then from the drop-down at the top (which will say 'My Processes'), select 'All Processes'. click the column header marked '% CPU' and let us know what the top 2 are.

Also, what have you updated or installed recently?
