A few months ago my macbook pro (17 inches) crashed for the first time ever and I could not fix the mac partition of my mac so I tried reformating the whole computer. It never worked. Now my mac starts up with windows as if it were a pc.
I bought a new installation disk. when I pressed alt, I saw the installation disk and windows options, and selected the installation disk and finally saw the apple icon. I waited and went to sleep and when I woke up the next morning it, the white screen with the apple icon was still there. So no mac.
I also tried rebooting holding down shiftt and didn´t get the safe mode.
Windows works perfectly, but I bought a mac because I wanted a mac. How can I reformat my mac book pro so that I can use it as a mac?
I have already backed up all my files in bootcamp, so that won't be a problem.

First, reset the PRAM - NVRAM. See this LINK. Now, boot your MBP with the startup DVD you purchased. You should now be able to install OS X. With some good luck, your Windows partition will still be intact and can be selected at boot up.
