I just took a perfectly good 3TB (Journal Extended) drive from my mac pro which is running osx 10.5...

And put it into an external enclosure which I am trying to run on my mac book pro running os x 10.4.11

The mac says it is not initialized. I cannot get it to load and I don't want to erase it. Is this an OS issue? Is there a way to get the older mac to recognize the drive?

The OS shouldn't matter since you're not attempting to boot from the external drive. And the size of the drive is OK with Tiger. Something else going on....

More likely it's the external carrier that's at fault. There are size limitations that some external carriers do not mention, specifically when it's USB. Check to see what the max size drive your particular carrier can support.
