Problem with moving files PC HD to Ext. HD

I have a Western Digital 700gb USB Hard Drive and a SATA PC Hard Drive in a case. The PC was infected with a horrible virus, so I'm trying to move the files over to an external, wipe the sata, and then reinstall XP or 7. My western digital has always been a happy hd. I took it out of the box 2 yrs ago, and plugged it right into my mac without formatting it at all. I haven't used it much in the past year, but what large files are on there are very important. The drive has 208gb free, and I want to move 180gb of files over. Today, I received the error "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0).". What can I do to fix this?

Do you know what format the External HDD is? If it is Mac OS Extended then you will have problems writing to it from the PC, if it is FAT32 there is a file size limit of only 4 GB minus 1 byte (232 - 1 bytes). That means, any kind of file cannot attain a maximum size of 4GB. Therefore, FAT32 is unsuitable as a file system for large databases and video applications.

Thanks to a blazing fast imac, I was able to move all the files over gb by gb! Its a hassle, but I can't imagine doing it on any other computer. Thanks so much Buzzard2010! I have added two points to your reputation!
