So just now my iMac G5 (Rev A) which has had quite a lot of fan noise recently (they got worse after i installed the latest Safari Update yesterday as well), Just went blank on me in the middle of some Cinema 4D work and I had to switch it off.

When I tried to reboot it wouldn't let me for about 10 minutes, then when it did it made a weird kind of a BOOOP sound (not heard that one before) and then rebooted but now the fans seem even noisier than before.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance for any help
Paul

I tried Zapping the PRAM but the fan noise is still as bad as ever and now it keeps going into sleep mode as well.
I have repaired permisions and run Tech Tool and Mac janitor and Internet CleanUp but none of it seems to do any good.

Sounds like a bigger hardware issue, I'd contact apple or take it to your local authorized apple service partner.

A resistor in your powersupply most likely overheated and melted. It is a noted issue and apple will fix it for you.

Thanks for the info.

So you think that this is probably the cause of the noise etc?
How long do Apple have your machine on average when they take it for repair?

that kind of thing happened to me with a Power Mac Cube G4 it turns out that someone liked touching the little glowing light - I'm glad that they got rid of those touch buttons.
