More or less a rhetorical question: Why does the Finder window have a red "X" in the corner, since all you can really do is minimize the Finder window to the dock? The Finder app can't be truly "quit" as far as I can tell.

If you notice though if you minimise it, when you open it again by clicking on the finder icon in the dock it will open where you left it. i.e. if you navigated to home > documents > expenses, then minimised it, when you click the finder icon it will open back to the expenses folder. If you close it however, then click the finder icon you will be presented with your home folder again.

Hope this helps

Excellent point. I hadn't considered that.

I had to think about it before I replied, certainly a good question :)

Right. Finder doesn't "quit". But clicking the red button (x) will close the open window. Cmd+W does that as well.

Not all Applications quit when you close their window by using the Red button.

It has a red 'X' to allow you to close it. Not sure about your use of "all" above. But, yeah, you can't quit Finder, nor would you want to. And I never use the Finder icon in the Dock for any reason.
