Java Performance Issues

Hi my name is Adam. I got a Macbook Pro for Christmas and I'm loving it. This is my first Mac, so sorry If I ask dumb questions. Anyway my problem is I've noticed that Java applications on OSX aren't running that well and the Windows version is superior to it. I have Windows 7 32-bit installed on my computer, and Java applications like Minecraft run ALOT smother on it. An example is I get about 30 FPS on medium render distance and it lags like crazy on Far. When I'm on Windows on the other hand, I'm normally above 100 fps at maximum settings, plus the game doesn't freeze whenever I change my render distance. One of the things I use the most are Java apps, so its essential I fix the performance.
