Hey all, just joined today, quick question. I had my phone out in bright sunlight and I caught a glimpse of a sensor of sorts hidden under the black portion of the top of the front screen on my iphone 4. It's about the same shape as the speaker hole beside the on screen camera and is a few millimeters above it (but smaller)...you have to shine a bright light on an angle (to avoid glare) to see it. Any thoughts on what it is? My initial thoughts were an RF receiver, or maybe for the GPS, but unsure to be honest.

You'll have to play around with the angle of the light to see it, but once you see where it is and what it looks like you'll be able to find it faster every time.

Welcome to Mac-Forums...

LMAO this happened to me a while back and I got intrigued too. It is actually the light sensor. It senses when it is bright out and dims the screen and vice-versa, (if you have automatically adjust screen brightness checked that is). It also senses when you put your phone to your ear for a conversation and turns the screen off to avoid pressing the screen with your face.

Hope this helps.
