I am new to Mac. Recently my wife got a message saying something about a trojan, which she quickly closed. Then recently her hotmail account was hacked and emailed from. I downloaded and ran ClamXav with no viruses found. SHould I be concerned or try another anti-virus? Might there be a correlation between the 2 events? Thx

1. There is no correlation between an email account (*particularly* hotmail) getting hacked and anything else.

2. There are no viruses for Mac.

3. Unless your wife is really into pirating software, she probably just encountered "scareware" ie pop-up ads that try to make you think you're infected with a virus. I laugh at those when I see them because Macs don't have viruses.

So, in short, don't waste your time. If some sort of malware had actually been present, Clam would have found it. Malware for Mac continues to be extremely rare and easily avoided, and even what malware exists isn't dangerous (annoying at best). And still no viruses.

Two rules:

1. Never input your admin password just because you're asked for it (ie you don't know why you've been asked for it)

2. Don't pirate software.

There! You're protected! :)

Nothing can get installed on your Mac without you giving it permission to by entering your administrator password. If you're asked for your password and you didn't intentionally try to install anything, then don't enter it.
