1. There is no correlation between an email account (*particularly* hotmail) getting hacked and anything else.
2. There are no viruses for Mac.
3. Unless your wife is really into pirating software, she probably just encountered "scareware" ie pop-up ads that try to make you think you're infected with a virus. I laugh at those when I see them because Macs don't have viruses.
So, in short, don't waste your time. If some sort of malware had actually been present, Clam would have found it. Malware for Mac continues to be extremely rare and easily avoided, and even what malware exists isn't dangerous (annoying at best). And still no viruses.
Two rules:
1. Never input your admin password just because you're asked for it (ie you don't know why you've been asked for it)
2. Don't pirate software.
