I just updated my Mac and now the date has ben set back to December 31, 2000 and I'm being prompted if I want to allow "configd" and "mDNS...." access to my computer. Anyone else have this?

How about telling us which Mac (year model) you have? And, have you tried resetting the date to the correct one from System Preferences, Date & Time? What happens when you do?

configd and mDNSResponder are "safe" processes so to speak - you don't have to worry about them being malicious. They're part of the OS. See here for more info (warning, it's kind of nerdy ;)).

Not sure why things have been reset and I haven't heard about anyone else experiencing a similar issue. You might want to check the "Set date and time automatically" so that if your date and time do mess up later, it will be auto-corrected for you.

Did you back up before your update? Never update any software (especially the OS) without backing up first.

No worries. It's a little old but it gets the job done. :)

Let me see if I can "de-nerd" this:
- mDNSResponder - you need this if you want to share files across the network. Essentially, it tells other computers "Hey, I'm over here. I have some stuff I'd like to share." iTunes uses this to share music across the network for example.
- configd - manages the configuration for various parts of OS X. That's the best I can do right now.

If someone can elaborate/correct, please do.

Really? I've been doing it for years and have never had a glitch...

I did a search and found other people had this problem with an update back for OS 10.5. Their problems seemed to stick around. However, I allowed the programs access and after about 30 minutes, the time readjusted itself and there appears to be no further problems. I restarted again and everything started up normal with no prompts. This was a Macbook Pro from Sept 2009. It's my first Mac so I'm still learning some stuff. I'll keep in mind to run a backup before I do any more updates. Thanks!
