MacBook Pro - 2.53GHz Core i5, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 500GB HD
I've been having a problem with my MBP. At first it only started when I was using certain programs but now my Macbook Pro randomly crashes to a blank screen, EX: it does that when I click on the "Downloads" icon in the dock. I took it to the apple store but when they looked at it, everything suddenly worked fine and I wasn't able to recreate the problem. :grimmace: They looked at my console logs and said it was definitely software related. (I'm just glad it's not my memory.)

I have several peripherals connected to my laptop. I have an external keyboard & mouse and monitor. I eventually determined that my external display is the source of the problem because my computer randomly crashes only when the second monitor is connected. It didn't do that when I first setup it up. Can anyone explain why that would be happening?

Here's the crash report

Well, to be honest I'm not sure myself what it is but there are abnormalities showing up in the KP.

This looks like a a memory read error.

panic(cpu 1 caller 0x9cdc8f): NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100: CFG 0xffffffff 0xffffffff 0xffffffff, BAR0 0xc0000000 0x7f222000 0x0a5480a2, D0, P2/4

And this is strange:

Hmm... that is strange, never noticed that before. And no, I'm not running Lion, I've got 10.6.7 on my machine. I did run the Hardware test a while ago to see if my memory was bad but it checked out fine. I should run it again to see if I find anything.

Still, I don't know why that would happen when I'm running dual displays. If my macbook is in clamshell mode, everything is ok. It's only when I have both running that's when all the weird stuff happens. And it wasn't always like this, it all worked fine when I first got it.

The Kernel version on my MBP is 10.7.3 and I'm running Snow leopard 10.6.7. If you look in System Profiler under Software you'll see that. Maybe it's because it's the 64bit Kernel.

Yeah, I think you're right. The "kernel version" threw me a loop. Looks like it might in fact be a memory error then.

Mac Book Pro 2011 freezes system in clam shell mode

new MacBook Pro 2011 in clam shell mode (cover closed) with older Apple Monitors with DVI to lightning bolt adapter will crash the system. (23 inch and 30 inch monitor). 23 inch monitor work OK with MacBook Pro open. On 30 inch Apple monitor, monitor has only max resolution of 1280. Older MacBook Pros (circa 2008) worked fine with these monitors. Are we looking at a common problem with this Lightning bolt connector.http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/mac_images/images/smilies/Confused.png
