Gmail. I have a serious gmail account that I use for communications and business, a spam one, and one specifically for this forum.

I am amazed at the number of people using Hotmail. Way back in the 90's, it was deemed a haven for spammers and other riff-raff. Many corporate blacklists omit the hotmail domain altogether. Is there a compelling feature that those of you that use it can specify?

Speaking only for myself, I found that Hotmail's spam blocking options were superier to Yahoo Mail's which was becoming too bogged down with junk mail. Gmail wasn't around yet at that time. By the time Gmail came out, I was already pretty heavily invested in Hotmail and didn't want to have to go through the headache of getting people to use another e-mail address for me (10 years later and I still get e-mail sent to my yahoo account from certain family members).

If I was new, I would use a gmail account as my primary now since it is easily accessed by different mail apps on all platforms. Hotmail is pretty much only accessiable via the web page or if you are running Windows and using one of Microsoft's e-mail programs. If Hotmail had IMAP then I'd be able to go either way.

I have eight email accounts going

between work and home. Hotmail has been the most problematic, Yahoo and Gmail work fine. GMX is another option to look at. I kept the old hotmail account going but wrote a rule so that any mail sent to it is automatically forwarded to my Yahoo account. Solves the change of email address problem.

Well I've moved to GMail. It certainly seems better and I'm not going back to Hotmail - the only question is whether I migrate to MobileMe if/when it becomes free.

Moving over all my forums and internet shops wasn't too bad. I'll wait to notify my friends/contacts of the change until I'm sure which service I'll use.

Either way, it seems I'll have the hotmail active for a while just in case stuff arrives there. I can't close it anyway, as it's linked to my XBox account!

I use both. Unfortunately the mail program on my new MacBook pro won't support multiple gmail accounts so I use outlook.

How new is this MacBook ?? As i have 3 Gmail and a .live account in my MacMail . . . . Just curious as you might have done something wrong :(

I have had my .live account since the day it came out. Very inexperienced computer user at the time, BUT as it stands it is the one account i dont get ANY junk on it what so ever. It does what i need it to and that is receive mail and send mail.

Now my only :( Grrr :( is at times i cant send mail from my .live account (in MacMail) bc it keeps coming up with a server error :(

Apart from that with a good password and good practices its been good and safe for me

Cheers

I have multiple email accounts but most of them are with gmail. I still use my hotmail account but that's where all my spam mail usually goes. >_>"

I access Hotmail with both Mail and Thunderbird. No problems. I have had a Hotmail account since the late 90's and keep it in case my Earthlink email fails.

Neither, it's Yahoo all the way for me, I had a Hotmail account since around 1998 but got rid of it as the service around a year ago became a joke, very unreliable.

I then tried GMail but hated the way it organises e-mails, I like folders, to me Yahoo gave me the best of both worlds, it also integrates perfectly with my iPhone.

I use Gmail and have it set up as IMAP on thunderbird. I just like T-Bird better than the Macmail program. It even lets you use the Mac Address book (which I do like) as your address book. I also have the address book sync'd to Gmail contacts and all of this (including calendar) are all sync'd to my Android phone.
