Almost nobody does anymore. Most electrical and electronic equipment that says "Made in China/Taiwan/Other Asian country" is assembled by contract manufacturers, or at best a jointly-owned factory.

The days of companies owning factories are numbered. It's much cheaper to set up a partnership with an overseas firm to assemble products. When a cheaper offer comes along, production is shifted there.

It should say something like 'Designed in California, Produced in China' on your iBook's box. As above, most electrical items are now produced in China because it's simply cheaper. Doesn't mean the quality is crap though!
