I have a Mac Pro with 2 Optiarc DVD RW AD - 7170A, both of which have ceased to operate. Need to replace and would like to do it myself. What should I replace with?

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Trust you have a Mac Pro 1.1 as the burners are a 2006 model? Go for Pioneer, they are as cheap as chips and simple to install. No need for a pair really unless you run a sound studio or such.

G'Day to you too and thank you. You are absolutely right - although I can't believe this computer is that old! Pioneer it is. Any suggestions for my second drive slot?

Unless you are doing a commercial number of burns leave it MT.

Sorry and yes as Charlie has said 'empty'.
