mac mini

To start off, I have a single core1.5 mini . When I bought it I went on the low side of the memory and high side for the dvd burner..i finally got it up to par with memory...its at a gig now and loving it but in the meantime I have lost my cd drive. The mini sat for about a year..it worked then .i have tried to reset the ribbon cable to no avail. It will pull the cd in but doesn't turn the cd...I have the top cover removed from the drive right now and upon insertion it will grab the cd and I can see the laser turn on and off ..no turning of the cd though...and then it will push the cd back out...any ideas would be extremely helpful

Probably the best idea is to replace the Mac-mini's drive (which may not be cheap). If it's not working...it's probably broke...and not repairable. An external CD/DVD is probably the least expensive route.
