mail keeps bring back old messages

hello all

I have recently brought myself a mac book and now will never go back to windows i love it.

I have synced my gmail email and my hotmail email to mail.

For some reason mail keeps bring back messages from my hotmail account from 2008 onwards. I have deleted them but on closing the application and reopening it mail simply imports them all again.

I have a basic knowledge of computer so any help would be appreciated !

In my experience, gmail accounts work the same way. The only way to delete messages permanently is to log into your webmail and delete them from the webmail trash.
