I really want to buy a 21.5" iMac but I don't know if spending the extra £250 for better CPU & GPU is worth the money for my needs.

I will use it for:

* Surfing the net
* Playing the sims 3 with all expansion packs
* Streaming DVD quality video daily using apple tv
* Occasional picture editing

Any advise given is much appreciated.
Thanks

For what you want to do, save the ££'s for something else. The base model iMac will do everything you want with consumate ease.

As someone with a base 2010 iMac, I second Kevriano. It definitely will do all of that with ease. Sims 3 runs a LOT better on the Mac than it does on PC.

To anwer the question.

Yes - If you want to future proof your imac a little more. In the long term 5 years down the track. It's worth it. ANd yes people do keep their imacs for 5+ years. My imac is 5 years old and runs 10.6 very well.

No - You don't need it for doing the things you listed. The base imac will do those things just fine. Sure it son't be as future proofed as if you bought the better imac. But just for the things you listed the base imac will do fine.
