I just barely downloaded and installed new updates for my MacBook Pro (13'', 2010) and it seemed to take for-e-ver. Of course afterward it prompts you to restart, which I did. During the install process, the Mac restarted itself, accompanied with a loud *beep* from the computer itself (speakers were muted and speakers were plugged in).
What would have caused this?
I also got a grey screen with an Apple logo and a loading bar that made it to halfway before restarting again and booting normally. The new updates seem to have been installed.
Any ideas?

Sound like the updates installed properly. Nothing unusual here.
