WHERE is WHERE?

I'm trying to figure out how to get finder to allow me to view where each file is in the list view. I go to view options, but "where" (i.e. folder location) isn't one of them. I see if I'm in a folder it displays the level up at the header of the finder window. How can I get it to tell me the full path of each item in the list view--especially in one of the smart folders, like "images"

If you hit cmd+I while a particular file is highlighted it will bring up the inspector which shows the entire path. You can also click on View --> Show path bar - and you'll see the path at the bottom of the finder window.

thanks for the tip, but can't I get it to display in a column in the list view. I don't want to have to look at each file individually to see the location it is stored.

or alternatively right click > get info.
You could also flick between View > Icons, Column or list, see which works best for you, I prefer columns because then you can scroll to the left to see exactly where the file has come from.

Or you could show the Path Bar, you can turn it on under the View menu in the Finder.

No, you can't. Not within the basic OS anyway.

Pathfinder will do what you want but it is expensive.

Also cmd-click on the titlebar will show you where you are as well. Try it with safari as well.
