I see what you mean!

I can download from all non-filehost sites successfully, including Apple.

On Googling the filehosts sites, and clicking to link, the progress bar just freezes.

Is it possible my ISP can block that as well, even if I want to upload legal material?

Incidentally, I did ask my ISP if it was blocking certain sites and they said they weren't

Read into that what you will...........

Considering you've already done a clean install of the OS and you can access everything else, I'd be calling them again.

Yep, and they can't legally block you from any site, regardless of it's nature (not here in the UK at least). They can traffic shape and choke bandwidth, but can't block you.

What you haven't mentioned is if you're on some school network or something.

No special network, just a home user.

Kevriano - is your assertion anecdotal or do you have this on good authority?

Lets say it's knowledge gained from reliable sources. Anyway, it won't help you solve the issue.
I would suggest trying Open DNS, which is free, and uses DNS servers not run by your ISP.
Many of us here use it, and it may help.
Out of interest, who is your ISP?

I've tried Google's DNS - no luck. My ISP is talk talk

Missed the reply back then, but therein lies your issue.
They are the worst ISP in the world for traffic shaping and site blocking.
