I wish you guys would quit posting stuff like this. I'm totally satisfied with my 4yr old MBP until I read these articles. What a machine!

That's what I keep telling myself, but so far it isn't working! :)

Ugh, that does suck. I'm lucky my roof didn't take mine. Wife let me spend some money anyway.

It is a nice upgrade though - my lone complaint is the sharp edge at the very end of the palm rest. Also, the trackpad take a bit of getting used to - I'm struggling with click-and-drag without a physical button. You can of course press down on the trackpad, but it's hard to maintain constant pressure on the trackpad while dragging. So hopefully, that'll give you some solace.

Excellent article. Thanks for posting! The article says
Apple will also let you to force the laptop to run on the AMD graphics, done through system preferences.

For some reason I can't find this option in system preferences?

Yes - it took me about a week to really feel comfortable with it - but now when I pick up my wife's Macbook - to show off something I've learned :D(still a new switcher) - I can barely use her trackpad and button. Even last night I was showing her how I can do just about anything I need to with one hand on the track pad.

I've really grown to like it now that I'm used to it - although there have been times where I've felt some fatigue after a while from the repetitive motions and had to switch to the magic mouse.

You and me both. I've got a nice load of Apple gift cards given to us (by my son) and am going around in circles trying to decide what to buy. I want to get to our local Apple store (Southlake Town Square) before the crowd shows up Friday for the iPad 2.

You know, this doesn't help... :D I started out thinking I would get the 13" model then I started reading the reviews and now hearing from you... looks like we'll probably go with the lower priced 15" model.

the trackpad take a bit of getting used to

Once you get used to it, you will never want to go back to any other kind of trackpad. I think it's one of the best parts of the MBP's!

It's an adjustment for sure, only because my last MBP was the oddball model that had the full-featured 4 contact point trackpad (much like the newer models), but still retained the button. So, I trained myself to use the button sometimes (like when dragging), but did tapping for nearly everything else.

So, each time I go to drag, my thumb gravitates toward the bottom of the trackpad and pushes as if the button is still there.

To make matters worse, I apparently enabled drag-lock at some point, which is really infuriating as it doesn't release until you do a subsequent tap. Took me awhile to figure this out, but now that I've got it turned off and yet still have dragging enabled, it works as I'd expect it. Now I'm starting to like it, but old habits do indeed die hard.

Battery life is pretty darned solid. I don't think I'd ever get the 7 hours of life that Apple claims, but I ran it hard last night and got a solid 5 hours even with a little bit of gaming (I was playing Portal via Steam).

Did you get the 6570? That's the demon I want, even though I know I don't do anything that requires that sort of graphics power any more.

And I still can't deal with the glossy display. However, the anti-glare screen protector on my iPad is really nice, so if they're making one for Macs, that could save some money. But, I'm probably dreaming unless my tax return is a grand higher than I think it's going to be.

I went with the lower-end model, which has the 6490 and the 2GHz i7. I couldn't justify another $200 for the next model up, seeing as how I almost never game on my laptop. Even still, it's pretty smoking fast, at least according to Geekbench.
