I always thougth all the g5 systems had firewire 800 ports.. I know my powerbook has one.. Maybe the next revistion of the iMac g5 will come with firewire 800 ports, unless they can not be supported under intel and they decided not to put them in so that they dont' have to take them away when they make an all in one system with the intel boards.

I thiught that the firewire 800 ports were only on the pro line and not the consumer line.

Thats what I thought.

Also, there is no reason why FireWire 800 wouldn't work on x86 Intel system, you can buy FireWire 800 cards for PCs currently.

I know but I did not know if they would work as built into the motherboard options.

Firewire 800 would be cool if it were practical. There's really not much, if any, improvement over 400 (today) since the actual drives can't reach that mark in throughput.
