Hi, a while ago the battery gave up, and in the process
nearly burnt my house down since the actual Power Supply
got red hot. No green light from the magnetic bit that connects
it to the mac.

So bought a new PSU which looks fine but the mac itself is playing dead.
It did start up a couple of times, but was a bit flaky, now it doesn't
start at all or give any sound. There is no battery in it now
( which i thought might sink the new psu as well )

The Green light is on so the PSU looks healthy.....

so what i am trying to say is

help !

I had a similar problem where my laptop wouldn't power on, but I would still get the green light when plugging my PSU in. I ended up having to replace the part that the PSU plugs into on the laptop. I had an Apple store do it for like $75.

Not sure if this is the same problem. To my knowledge Apple stores give free estimates so that may be the best route instead of throwing money at your machine...

Hi, thanks, it has suddenly jumped into life, only now the fan is on
permanently and making a noise which it never did before.

Strange, anyhow thanks again.

Try resetting the SMC as that controls the heat sensors which in turn control the fans. LINK
