I have a 24inch iMac running OS 10.6.6.
I can't access any site starting with https.
Safari gives the error message:
"Cannot establish secure connection with server"
I have googled for a solution and I see a couple of people had a lot of trouble with this problem, but I can't figure out a solution.

The problem occurs on all accounts on my computer - both admin and non-admin accounts. I have the same problem with FireFox and Chrome.

Could it be that I have a virus? If yes, how would I go about removing it?

Recent changes to the computer have been restricting access to two of the users of the computer using parental controls. Also, my router was removed and rewired and it may be that it wasn't rewired exactly as it was before.

My laptop can connect to https sites using the wireless network, but my iMac cannot connect to https sites using ethernet or airport.

Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem? Thanks

Just a couple of things to check and try,

First off it will not be a virus, for more info on this topic have a look here http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/sw...-official-antivirus-malware-firewall-faq.html

Make sure you have not enabled your firewall, to check this go to System Preferences > Security > Firewall

Try resetting your Router

Try resetting Safari by opening Safari then going to Safari > Reset Safari...

Hope this helps

I reset Safari and it worked on an admin account.

I then attempted the same for a non-admin account and it didn't help. Any idea why this might be so?

The firewall is off.

Thanks

I created a new parentally controlled account and everything works fine with it. I'm not sure what's wrong with the other accounts though.

Thanks

I now have another problem. On the new account I've created Safari works fine, but I can't log into Skype. The error message reads: "can't connect to Skype please check your network settings and try again".
This account is parentally controlled. On a different parentally controlled account Skype does work, Safari doesn't though (I can't access https sites).

This is so annoying. Can anyone help?

You may want to try repairing disk and permissions.

To do this boot into your OSX DVD, click Utilities > Disk Utility, click your HDD in the left pane then click the First Aid tab, click Repair Disk, then click Repair Disk Permissions. Could take a little while so be patient with it.
Once done reboot and see if the problem persists.

HTH
