Just excited and wanted to share. Ran home from work to put the box inside the house - don't want that sitting on the front porch all day. Picked up the 15" 2.3GHz i7 quad with 8GB RAM to replace my current (and also new) MBP. :) Will Geekbench it tonight and then migrate everything over. :D

Pictures coming shortly - Left work early to get home and play. Just finished using migration assistant - seems to have gone smoothly and am now posting from the new machine.

Interesting observation - at least to me. The display on the new machine seems noticeably 'warmer' to me - higher in color temperature than my other MBP. Yet - I can't seem to find a color temperature adjustment and all the display settings I can locate - are equal. Any idea why this would be? It's a very noticeable difference - although - now that I look at the two side by side - I tend to believe the new one is demonstrating the more accurate color reproduction.

Try playing a graphic intensive game, or anything that will put the AMD graphics to work, and see if anything changes as the graphics switch between the two. I have the same problem with my mbp(older one), where it will get "warmer" in color when switching from one 9600 to 9400, or 9400 to 9600, in some cases.

Oh yeah, congrats!!!

That's interesting. Unfortunately - I'm not sure I have anything that will stress the GPU in that fashion. I'd like to find the color temp setting just so I can compare apples to apples. The only place I can find that is in the calibration setting and my eyes are crossed from just giving that a shot on the "old" MBP...

You could try opening a bunch of hd videos on youtube.
Also, just to make sure, open up the system preference, go to Displays, click on Color, then in the Display Profile, make sure you have the "Color LCD" option selected.

The trick to calibration is being in a room where the lighting is consistent in terms of how you'd usually view your monitor. The viewing angle is also important if your using that built in calibrator. You really need to view it on an even angle perpendicular to your eyes when sitting (or whatever position you work in).

I actually just rented an Eye1 display 2 calibration tool from Adorama today and am about to calibrate my external monitor and both MacBook Pro screens. It's the only way to get an accurate calibration done, since the software is able to access settings in a monitor that the calibration tool in OS X isn't able to.

Have fun with that new beast.. I'm jealous!

Doug

Yes - The Color LCD profile is selected. Interestingly I have one extra profile in there than on the 'old' one.

I'll play with You Tube in a few...

Except for the Thunderbolt port and symbol - you can't tell the difference between them...

Migration in process - only took about 20 minutes - but then I don't have that much on my MBP yet - still a new switcher to Mac :)

Do all new macbook pros have silver border round display? What's happen to black on previous generation, it's far better than silver.

You got me! Have you restarted it? Maybe your old MBP really had the problem:p

What's that green icon/logo on the bottom center of the MBP's screen? Never seen it before.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)

They are the matte displays.
