Yes...reduced prices on the original iPad are tempting. If you can get a 16 gig iPad 1.0 refurb. for $350...just think what they may be going for on Craig's List!:)

- Nick

p.s. Update...I just checked the Apple Store at 3:15pm EST...and the prices don't seem to be reduced (maybe it's a glitch on Apple's end).

They seem to still be there when I click the link I posted. Maybe because the page is cached for me? Not sure.

Looks like there was a "state of flux" earlier. Prices now are as you stated in post#1.:)

It would have been interesting, if Apple still kept the iPad 1 in production for its current cheaper price. I would imagine, we would see the iPad in so many more schools and businesses than normal.

I know the hospital my mother works at is working towards becoming less dependent on paper for documentation by using tablet PC's.

How good are Apple refurb products? Could they possibly have scratches or other cosmetic damage that you can't complain about? What about the operation? How much can you tell a product is a refurb?

No, I don't believe Apple sends out any refurbs with any visual or functional defects. I think refurbs primarily come from returns or parted out damaged product (good parts kept, damaged tossed) I have never heard of a bad issue with a refurbished Apple product. They also carry the full 1 year warranty, as opposed to most other manufacturers who only offer 90 days on refurbs. I don't know if you can get AppleCare, but at that price it's not worth it anyway.

I got a refurb iPad for my mother and she loves it. Couldn't tell the difference at all: same packaging and documentation, nothing on it indicated a refurb.

The refurbs are eligible for AppleCare as well.

Well…I'm tempted to spring for the first gen iPad…I mean the second gen is awesome, thinner, lighter, comes with facetime…but…meh. 1 GHZ, 1 Core and iOS multitasking - all I need.

I wonder if a smart cover will fit over a first gen. Probably won't…:p

I think my parents would rather buy me a junker car than an iPad…at least for now.

Cover won't work for first gen, but there's plenty of quality covers out there. You'll feel a lot cooler in a junker car with even a first gen iPad ;)

$350 for an iPad. The competition is simply toast.

Incase makes a case for the first iPad that's almost identical to the new Apple case, but has the additional bonus of also protecting the back of the iPad:
