Jobs leaving Apple will not hurt Apple as much as people think it will.
But if the talent like Ive leave it will hurt Apple. Big time. If I was Apple I'd so let him work from the UK for a time. I'd do anything to keep him on board. If Apple act dumb and loose him then that'd the the worst thing. Cause the competition would try to snap him up.

Eh, here's how I look at it. We don't know for sure how much influence Ive has in overall design, nor do we know for sure how talented his design team is that he works with at Apple.

Yes it would suck to lose such a high profile designer, but to assume he alone is the genius maybe not be accurate anymore. I'm sure the entire team is very talented.

Also, with a design role like that opening up at Apple, I guarantee there will be a line of people just waiting to try and get that job if Ive really does leave. I'm sure Apple would be able to pick up someone just as talented. There are a ton of great designers out there, their visions are just normally destroyed by normal corporate decision making by committee. That doesn't happen at Apple.

Too many...
Coming from a design background, I believe he has hit his max potential already, and is running out of ideas. Possibly bouncing off others'? Yes, it is possible, especially when you've been with one company for about 20 years! They will find another designer, no doubt about it, but imo, Ive is almost part of Apple's backbone. From what I know though, the best designers I know(from school experience) come from either California, or the UK(more so the UK than Cali though).

So you're trying to say Ive is old blood with all his ideas exhausted and maybe it's time to get in new fresh blood with new and fresh ideas?

I wouldn't be so sure of that...at least in the short term (just my humble opinion).:)

We all know how we all want Jobs to train up his replacement and then leave Apple in good hands (rumour but that's what we hope Jobs will do). But I was thinking each Senior VP should be doing the same. Looking for someone to train up to be the best head of department at Apple. Cause the Senior VP's won't be at Apple forever. And it's important positions are always filled by the right people.
