I am literally astounded over all the new features/additions/refinements this OS is getting.

While that is pretty to look at, it is dumbing down and missing tons of information about the system that is currently provided.

+1 Ew! This thing is looking more and more like an OS with training wheels than an big boy's OS. Next thing you know, terminal will be gone. I do like some of the additions with the GUI and some of the new features, but why bother ripping something like "About this Mac" apart, as to strip it of its usefulness ?

Everyone's overreacting. System Profiler is still there and so is the detailed info. This is just a simpler view for the average person :)

What he said.
95% of the time most people only want the basic info. And for people new to Macs or not good at using them, this will make it much easier for them to get the info to tech people or us on M-F so we can help them.

Yes the detailed info will still be there. This is just to help the people not so good with Macs with the basics.

Is it a fact that it's still there ? If so, I guess that's fine but it's still kind of redundant, and I'm not entirely sure it's so great having to put a nice little cartoon graphic on every little thing just because it's a menu function that isn't immediately obvious to people.

After all, I really don't think that Apple's entire consumer base is too dumb to explore and find things without having a big Ol' "HERE IT IS!!" graphic embedded on everything. But hey.. maybe I'm wrong.

I guess it's not a biggie if it's still there, I just had to agree with Bob's initial sentiment.

And I imagine, it will be another one of those cool "baits" that will get the considering switcher to buy a Mac. :D

I know you guys are reluctant over the optional dumbing down of Mac OS X, but there are some people who are very computer inclined who might appreciate this.

You hate something so strongly and also love the same thing in the same topic. I find that funny :).

Yes, at it says it's still there in the very beginning of the article if you take time to read it. ;)

Especially when all you need IS the basic stuff. Opening System Profiler isn't really necessary unless you're looking for something specific, usually. At least it wouldn't be, with this new system overview. I guess currently, it's the only option we have if we want to see more than processor speed and RAM installed, huh? :p

Not at all. Personally, I like as much detail as possible. Most of my friends and family, to this day, couldn't tell you the difference between a hard drive and RAM, much less what 4GB vs 500GB imply when talking about the specs of a machine. They don't want to know either.

I like anything that makes it easy on those folks that only want to learn how to do what they want to do. Sort of like driving a car without having a clue of the mechanics (and today, the electronics) that actually make it work.

I'm even finding myself moving into that realm to some extent. Think this is one of the reasons I like the iPad so much.

If we can have both on a computer, I like it.
