how do i de-authorize my iPhone 3g?

I'm going to get a new iPhone today. how do i de-authorize my current iPhone (3g) from my itunes store account?

Go to iTunes store (from your iPhone) and under accounts you will find the option to deauthorize.

I don't think there is an option to deauthorize iDevices. They do not count toward the 5 computer limit in iTunes.

Only computers are authorized and deauthorized.

If you're selling it, just sync it up with iTunes and do a restore to put it back to factory.

edit: to simply remove your iTunes ID from the device, go to Settings - Store and click on Sign Out. When you click on Sign In again, the email and password must be re-entered. Not sure, but I think if you do this and leave apps you purchased from your iTunes account on the iDevice, whenever those apps have updates available, the new owner will be prompted to put in the password for your account and I believe your account name will already be shown in that window. It's best to do a restore and make sure all your info and data is gone.

I ran into the "not being able to deauthorize a device from another device issue" with my MBP.
Had the logic board replaced and now iTunes sees it as a new computer. Can't deauthorize the "old" one without deauthorizing all.

Yeah, that option to only deauthorize "all" is kind of a pitr, but if one machine is dead or has been reformatted, it's not really an issue. I've only had to 'deauthorize all' one time in several years (had the same machine authorized 3 times), before I learned about deauthorizing prior to blowing away and clean installs on my Windows machines.

talking about deauthorizing all, its supposed to show up once every year, if used. but it hasn't shown up for my account in 2011. i have an old computer authorized which i would like to deauthorize.

It does not "show up" once a year. It can be used once in a 12 month period.

If you want to de-authorize all your computers, you have to go into your account to do it.

You can't de-authorize a single computer except from within iTunes on that computer.
