So I am thinking about getting a new Macbook pro this summer since I am entering grad school and my current macbook pro is 4 years old. The question I have is for you all that have SSD how much faster is it compared to a 7200 rpm hard drive. I know that the machine will startup faster but how about when running programs. Can you really tell a difference between a 7200 rpm hard drive vs a SSD hard drive once the machine as started up and in normal use.
My second question is how big is a 256 GB SSD drive? I what I mean is how much actual staff do you get. For example even though I have a 160 GB drive in my current computer the hard drive is really just 149.9 GB.
Thanks for all the help. Just wanted to know if you guys think it is worth the extra cost to go to SSD. By the way I am engineer so I am always on my computer running simulations so I am a heavy user.
