Removing and Using Internal HD

Had a little bit of Orange Juice spill on the LEFT side of my MACBOOK. Got down to the Motherboard and saw some tiny blobules of hardened OJ on some tiny bits, but nothing obvious on the harddrive or RIGHT side of the internal hardware. The computer doesn't function.

I want to remove the HD, and use it as an 'external HD'. I heard something about an "enclosure" that could allow me to do this via a USB connection. Is this possible? Is there a way to test the functionality of my HD before I buy an enclosure being that my old computer is not funtioning. (I already purchased a new macbook pro).

Thoughts?

There is no way to test the hard drive once it's removed from the machine unless you use either a carrier or an adapter. Buy an inexpensive SATA carrier and place the HD in it. If the drive is dead or has a problem, return the carrier for a refund.
