Recognizing USB devices on Macbook Pro 10.6.6

Requesting assistance in recognizing devices that are plugged into my USB.
Trying to recognize a new Seagate External Hard drive (3.0 to 2.0) and it does not come up on my device list.

Your Mac's Specs
20" Intel iMac 2.4 Ghz/3G Ram/320HD, Snow Leopard. PBook G4, 1.5Ghz/1.5 Ram/250 HD, Leopard 10.5.6.
Open disk utility and see if you can see it there, but grayed out.
The reason it's not mounting is because it is not yet formatted for Mac.
From Disk Utility you can reformat to Mac OS extended (journaled), and it should then show up no problem.

Cannot see device in disk utility

I do not see my devices in disk utility either. Should I take my Macbook pro 10.8.3 to get checked or is there something i can do to see my devices. I can't see any of my harddrives!

I appreciate any help.

Main-11" Air, iPhone 6+, iPad Mini 3, Hi-Fi Extras- Too many to count
Try running the device from another computer and see if it shows up. If it doesn't then it might need replaced.
