I wish I had one of those... I mistakenly got rid of a Classic II. Any of the SE/Classic/Classic II/128k/512k/etc. models go for good money on eBay.

Best place to pick one up is at a garage sale. When the weather gets a bit warmer and the garage sales start going, keep your eyes open. Most folks that put them out in garage sales have no idea what their value is.

Pictured is the "dual-floppy" version of the Macintosh SE. It also came in a single floppy & hard drive version (which I purchased an example of about 2 weeks ago for $15.00).

I have it's brother the Mac Plus (April 1987). bought it in December 1987 as a Christmas present to myself ($3999.95); great present back in the day. Came with 1 MB of ram, but had it upgraded to 4 MB (that was the max).

The same EXACT things we use computers for today!!!

What did you think computers from the late 80's/early 90's were used for???

well, obviously people use computers for a few different reasons now, and as they have got more powerful the general uses have increased dramatically. i doubt they did any video editing on these things?

i heard they were used for word processing etc for magazines?

Of course the list of things that we use computers for today is longer than it was in the late 80's/early 90's. But the basic things that people use computers for today:

- e-mail (much more basic 20 years ago)
- word processing
- spreadsheets
- psuedo-internet (pay for services like AOL, Compuserve, etc.)
- music
- photo editing
- graphics
- games
- etc.

...were all things that we did with computers back then. Todays computers just do these things with more "bells, whistles, and eye-candy"!

- Nick

p.s. Believe it or not...computers in the last 20 years have not advanced as much as you think. The hardware has gotten a lot faster...and the software has gotten a lot more user friendly & feature "rich". But many of the "basic" things we use computers for today hasn't changed a lot from 1990.

Be very careful of your expectations if you were to find & purchase one of these...especially the dual floppy version. This version has no hard drive...so you have to run the OS & apps. off of floppies ONLY (unless you also find an old SCSI external hard drive).

Finding OS floppies & apps. on floppies is very very difficult...and if you do find them, they may not work due to age or wear of the floppy drives. If you get the SE with the single floppy & hard drive you have more flexibility.

You would also want to make sure you get a keyboard & mouse with it...since the Apple "ADB" keyboard & mouse are not easy to find either. Finally...the CRT display on these may not be in very good shape. 20+ years (of even periodic use) can really wear out a CRT display.

If your only interest is just to look at it (and maybe to take it apart to see the insides)...then you're good to go. But if you actually want to use it...try & find a deal that includes OS & app. disks.

Good luck,:)

- Nick
