Wacky Codec Problem.

I'm having trouble with video files on my iMac. It's a G5 running Tiger.

For a while I was using Real Player and Windows Media Player to play videos that needed them. Then one day they both just sort of stopped working.

When I try to watch .wmv files in Media Player it tells me the file was encoded using a codec that is not supported and plays without sound. But I checked the help and the stats of the file and that codec is supported.

Real Player is doing a similar thing, playing videos without sound but no warning comes up.

I've searched and read all the threads and done all the things described when people had other WMP problems. Deleting the preferences, numerous uninstalls and reinstalls. I tried MPlayer OSX and VLC and both give weak results. Some files won't play in VLC and MPlayer would play sound but no video.
